A track and irrigation channel running between green fields in warm hazy light

Serving Pakistan’s Agricultural Future

A department built around the field: the soil, the season, and the people who work it.

Our mission

Reliable guidance, within reach of every farmer

Agriculture is the largest employer in the country and the foundation of its food supply. The department exists to make sure that a grower in any district can get accurate, timely, locally-relevant advice — and can find the public support they are entitled to without navigating a maze to do it.

That means three things in practice: extension officers who are physically present in the field, guidance written for Pakistani conditions rather than borrowed from elsewhere, and programmes whose eligibility rules are stated plainly enough to check in a minute.

Our priorities

Six commitments

What the department is organised to deliver, and what its programmes are measured against.

Ripening wheat filling the frame

Food Security

Reliable production of wheat, rice and other staples across both cropping seasons, and the storage to hold it.

A farming couple standing together at the edge of their field

Farmer Prosperity

A better return per acre through lower input waste, stronger market linkage and fewer post-harvest losses.

Hands planting a seedling into dark soil

Sustainable Agriculture

Soil organic matter, balanced nutrition and practices that leave the land in better condition than they found it.

A fine spray of irrigation water crossing a green field

Water Efficiency

More crop per drop — levelling, scheduling and the shift from flood to pressurised irrigation.

Low sun burning through morning mist over open farmland

Climate Resilience

Heat-tolerant varieties, shifted sowing windows and protected cultivation for a less predictable climate.

Polytunnel greenhouses arranged in rows on a farm

Agricultural Innovation

Certified seed, mechanisation and precision tools applied where they measurably pay.

Cultivated green fields set against dry mountain slopes

Green land against dry mountains — farming here is an act of engineering.

From the canal command areas of Punjab and Sindh to the terraced valleys of the north, almost every productive acre depends on water arriving at the right time.
